Introduction

There is one program, Polymer Technology,  within the Department of Materials and Material Processing Technology of Gazi University Vocational School of Technical Sciences. Our program provided training under the name of ”Tire and Plastic Technology" until 2017. Since 2017, by the decision of the Executive Board of Higher Education, it continues to provide education under the name of “Polymer Technology”. Our department consists of 4 semesters. 3 semesters consist of classes and 1 semester consists of Workplace Training. The main objective of the program is to train technicians, who are equipped to contribute to the identification or solution of problems that will be encountered in the sector. What is more, technicians are required to have the basic knowledge and skills required by the sector where rubber and plastic products are produced in which the usage area has increased with each passing day. The laboratories that are provided to the students within the scope of the program, help students to transform the theoretical knowledge they have learned in the lessons into practice. On the other hand, by courtesy of the technical visits to the factories at regular intervals, students are faced with the application areas of the program themselves. The aim of the department is to be a pioneer in the fields of social and sustainable development through interdisciplinary project collaborations, nationally and internationally recognized in the fields of education and scientific development, modern, innovative, reliable, respected and preferred.

Qualifications of Students who Graduated from Polymer Technology

* They will be informed about the general definition of the polymer and the mechanisms and production of it.

* After having information about the physical chemical and mechanical properties of polymers, students will be informed on which types of polymers will be used for which purposes.

* They will get an idea about the appropriate usage areas of a material by processing polymers with which types of techniques.

* They will get information about the importance of polymers in use as composite materials.

* They will get an idea of which polymeric materials are used significantly in which sectors.
